Here is an example of an image that I edited with Photoshop. The before is on the left, the after is on the right.

Lots of images can be improved with Photoshop if done right. Photoshop is not a cure all, if used incorrectly the image will look worse rather than better.
For best results, the image has to be good to begin with, especially the composition.
